A hike along this trail will offer almost a 900 foot drop in elevation. For the easy to moderate version of this hike, we suggest that you park a car at the Buckeye Recreation Center and get dropped off at the trailhead on Hawthorne. Then, as you start, you will descend down an old logging road used during the late 1920’s, when chestnut and hemlock trees were harvested on Beech Mountain.
The trail follows along the Grassy Gap Creek and continues down to Lake Buckeye. Please stay on the marked trail and always respect the private properties along the way.
This trail is approximately two miles long. Once at the Buckeye Recreation Center, stop in the lobby and check out all the amenities the center has to offer the public.
For the strenuous version of this hike, park at either Hawthorne or Buckeye and hike both ways!
