One of the most popular trails on the mountain due to the 30 foot waterfall and perfect picnic area, is the Falls Trail. It is a loop that can be hiked in either direction. Entrance to the trail is located behind the Buckeye Recreation Center’s apple orchard, directly across from the playground. Rock steps descend downward then meander back and forth toward Buckeye Creek and the scenic picnic spot.
This trail is not only a treat for your eyes but your ears will enjoy the sounds of rushing water as you follow the Grassy Gap Creek which converges with Buckeye Creek at the falls. The iron bridge offers a unique perspective of both the waterfall and creeks and is a must photo stop.
This easy to moderate, 1 mile hiking loop runs through the forest and has an elevation change of 250 feet. After reaching the creek, you find yourself on a section of the historical Whiting Lumber Company’s railroad grade from the 1920s.
